How do I put captions on pictures?
Simply create a text frame with the text frame tool. Here's how:

Chose the Text Frame Tool from the Control Strip. The cursor changes
to a crosshair text icon

Position the crosshair on the page where you want one corner of
the Text Frame.

Click and hold the mouse button while dragging the cursor to the
shape for your Text Frame.

Release the mouse button and type the text.

Now move the text frame just below the picture.

If you would like to permanently keep the caption with the picture,
select both objects and choose Group from the Object menu.
