Problems Publishing

I'm getting some errors when I try to publish my web site.  What am I doing wrong?

This depends on the error. If you receive the 12110 error you probably just need to install the latest patch. Click here for the download page.

If you are receiving a 'Host Name Not Resolved', 'Password Incorrect', or 'Cannot Connect' error, you should double-check your FTP information with the ISP. You will want to ask for their standard FTP host information.

If the error is anything else, there are several possiblilities. Here are the main items to look for:

1) Incorrect 'Directory' path set. This is usually not required, but some ISP's will setup a special directory for you to publish to. (Usually this is called, "public_html", "www", or "html".)

2) Disk quota exceeded. Check with your ISP to make sure that you still have space available on the server.

3) Spaces or strange characters in your filenames. This can cause the server to reject your files. (Also applies to double extensions. Ex: index.home.htm)

4) Files permissions not setup correctly. Check with your ISP to make sure that you have permission to write and overwrite files on the server.

5) The server is overloaded or busy. Some servers can become busy and will restrict the number of users they allow to login. Try again during non-peak internet hours. (or consider a new web host...)

6) The server is causing a problem with the 'wininet.dll'. Certain servers will cause the DLL to freeze. There is a special beta version to fix this problem. E-mail support@mvd.com for details. (This version has a "Use Passive Mode" checkbox in the publish dialog.)

7) Your firewall is not allowing WebExpress to access the interenet. Check your firewall software. You may have to give WebExpress specific permission to access FTP services.
