Setting the Keywords <meta> tag

How do I enter “Keywords” for my web pages?

The “Keyword” <meta> tag, as it is known, is used by Internet search engines to help categorize and classify your web pages and sites. Say a user goes to Yahoo! and searches for websites with information about “Widgets,” which just happens to be what you sell on your very own website. Well, you’d probably want Yahoo! to know about your site.

To enter keywords for your web page:

  1. Open the main page of your website (e.g., Index.htm), and press F4 to open the Web Page Properties dialog box.

  2. Then click the Header Commands button, which opens another dialog box titled Header Parameters containing three tabs.

  3. Under the tab named User Meta Variables is where you will enter keywords for your website. In the text box named Name, type “KEYWORDS”. It doesn’t matter whether you enter it in lower or uppercase letters (but don’t type the quotation marks).

  4. In the text box named Value, enter the keywords for your website separating each one with a comma or semi-colon.

  5. Click the Add button when you have entered all keywords, then click OK to return to the Web Page Properties dialog box. Click OK once more to close it and return to your web page.

You can make changes to your keywords at any time following the same procedure above, but instead of click the Add button after making your changes, click the Change button.

You can also enter other <meta> tags in addition to “Keywords” following the same procedure. “Description” and “Author” are good examples.
