How to create an Image Map
WebExpress lets you create an image map out of an existing graphic with
a simple point-and-click process. During the process, you draw an outline
with your mouse around the areas you want to specify as the hot
spots in the map.
Heres how to do it:
-
Insert a graphic image on the web page (all image maps are associated
with particular graphics, i.e., you cant just create a hot spot
to be placed anywhere on a page)
-
Click the image to select it.
-
Right-click the image and choose Image Map Properties from the pop-up
menu. The Picture/Maps information window opens.
-
Select the location of the image map. If the image map resides on
the Internet server (as opposed to the current web page or inside
your web site), check the Server Side box. If the map resides on the
client side, click either Current Page (if that's the only place it
will appear), or web site (if the graphic will appear throughout the
site).
-
Enter a name for the new map in the Name field. For example, if
youre creating a map that lets the user navigate around your
site, you could type Navigate.
-
Click Add to display the Image Map editing window. The graphic will
be displayed in the preview window.
-
Click one of the hot spot types in the Shape list. Each selection
specifies a different geometric shape. The Rectangle type is the most
common.
-
Create the hot spot by outlining a portion of the graphic with your
mouse. Trace around the piece of the image where you want the hot
spot, clicking and dragging the mouse to create the hot spot outline.
-
Enter a URL or web page in the HREF field and click OK.
