Creating Cascading Style Sheets

To facilitate the use of styles in conjunction with HTML tags, WebExpress allows you to define new styles based on existing pre-defined ones. For example, you can create a style based on Heading 1 named Red. When you apply this style, the text takes on all the attributes of Heading 1, plus the text color becomes red.

WebExpress organizes styles by their function. The types of styles available are Character, Paragraph and Document styles.

Character styles contain text formatting commands. Paragraph styles can contain almost anything relating to text formatting. Document styles relate to document-specific attributes such as page background and link colors.

Here’s how to set up a style sheet:

  1. Select Edit Style Sheet from the Format menu. The Edit Style Sheet window appears.

  2. This dialog box contains two tabs: Styles and Style Sheets. To edit a style, click the Styles tab.

The Style list displays the available styles that follow the HTML standard specification. New styles that you add are based on the standard styles in this list.

  3. Select either Paragraph, Character or Document from the Style Type dropdown depending on what you want to do.

  4. Select a style from the Style list and click the Edit button, or enter a new style name and click the New button.

When creating a new style, make sure to first select one of the standard HTML styles you want it to be based on.

  5. Make any changes to the style and click the OK button when you are finished.
