Tables appear different in different browsers

Why do tables appear differently in Internet Explorer 3.0 than in IE 4.0?

Tables are calculated differently in 4.0 and 3.0. They are also displayed differently in Netscape and Explorer. HTML is not a standardized language. Here are a few tips:

  • Use fixed pixel widths in the Table Properties dialog box. Usually around 600-650 is a good setting for most display sizes.

  • Make sure the cell widths add up to the total table width. Again using fixed pixel widths.

  • Keep tables as uncomplicated as possible.

  • Avoid spanning cells. Instead, try inserting tables within tables to achieve the same effect.
